Bio
David Maxwell is a Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW) and psychotherapist, having completed a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor and a Bachelors degree in Child and Youth Care from Toronto Metropolitan University. He has a wealth of experience in children and adult’s mental health through working with individuals and families in a variety of settings including child and adolescent inpatient care, outpatient hospital services and in emergency department crisis services.
David practices from a strength and acceptance-based approach, utilizing a range of clinical interventions synthesized to meet individual goals and needs building on an individual’s known and undiscovered strengths and abilities. His practice is informed by modalities such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). David’s experience also includes working effectively to improve and resolve a variety of mental health related issues including depression, anxiety (generalized, social and performance anxiety), conflict resolution, self-esteem, grief, self-harm, stress management and life transitions.
In addition to his clinical practice, David is an avid hockey fan and has played this sport throughout his life. He is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys spending time on canoe trips down rivers across Ontario, having recently completed a portage trip down the French River. He values living a physically active life and champions the benefits of such on both physical and mental health
